Purple And Moody Bathroom: One Room Challenge Fall
Let’s match the bedroom to the bathroom. Purple, mid century modern and bold
This fall for the One Room Challenge fall edition I’m tackling the Main bathroom and this will be my biggest renovation yet!! I will be gutting my bathroom and adding a little more space by removing the closet in the bathroom. I already have a HUGE main closet in the bedroom so this one is not necessary. I’m not 100% sure what I will use that extra space for, but the ideas floating around at the moment is to add a free standing tub or flip the plumbing to turn it into the laundry closet.

For the bathroom I’m going all out creating the bathroom of my dreams but still with a focus on function. What’s the point of having something pretty but it doesn’t work for how I use the space? Let’s dive into the fixtures I’ve chosen and what makes them functional for my space.
The Shower
I am choosing to go with a rainshower/ handheld shower/body jet shower system. It may seem excessive but what function does it serve me? The rain shower and handheld will be great when washing my hair. I have curly hair and I want to make sure to get all the shampoo/conditioner out.
One thing for sure, there was no way I would have just a rain shower head without anything else because I don’t get my hair wet everyday and wouldn’t want to mess up my hair style. But this combination seems to be a great way to clean my body and have versatility.
The Tile
Purple, purple purple. I chose my tile November 2021, thats how long I’ve been gushing over this tile. The tile comes from the Tile Shop and it comes in a rainbow of colors. In my case I chose Aubergine and Mirtillo, two deep purple subway tiles which I think will go well together.
I used aubergine to help me choose the color of my main bedroom paint. If you haven’t seen the main bedroom makeover check it out!
Finally For the shower floor I will use a purple veined marble tile. This will be a great way to break up the deep purple in the rest of the shower. Same with the Dijon subway tile which will go around the vanity.
The Vanity and Cabinet
Vanities suck. A functional vanity honestly seems like a misnomer because let’s be honest vanities aren’t made for people to use them. Most have drawers that are too small, have huge door openings to accommodate the plumbing but it’s hard to store much under there.
The Ikea Godmorgon cabinet is one of the few I’ve found that has full drawers. I also love drawers because they help me “see” what I have.
The other vanity I considered was from rejuvenation but I found a dupe by Modway from Amazon at a quarter of the cost BUT it wouldn’t be available until March 2023.
The tall cabinet will serve as a bathroom linen storage to store towels, bathroom accessories, and basically give things a space but also not too deep where I will forget its there.
Final thoughts: One Room Challenge
I have thought of so much when designing this bathroom. The first item I sourced for this bathroom was back in 2020 and I have been storing items in my garage until I could start the reno.
This will be a mostly full gut of the bathroom renovation. We will see whats behind the walls, rebuild the shower, a build up from there. Hope you stay along for the journey
