Facebook marketplace love to hate it: do’s and don’ts

If you’ve spent any time on Facebook Marketplace (FBMP), you know its’ the bad place. Both as a buyer and as a seller.

You message a seller and they never respond, items get sold quick, scammers, resellers and lots of junk. BUT there are gems to be found in such a rough place…and the same can be said for Craigslist or Ebay.

Furniture, vintage finds and hard to find items can be found fore cheap if people are moving, downsizing or just looking to clear some space.

You’ve got to be quick…but also get your message seen!! I used Facebook marketplace to help raise funds for my patio renovation and to buy furniture for the space!

FBMP Dos and Don’ts

  • Do: Personalize your message.
  • Don’t use the “Is this Available” button…most people ignore it like spam
  • Do: offer to pick up right away, same day, within the hour if possible. Get them to commit to you first
  • Don’t ask to hold for an extended amount of time
  • Do: Confirm measurements, pickup time etc
  • Don’t: Be late! or fail to communicate or Re-shedule it can get you blocked
  • Do: Pay cash
  • Don’t: Come empty handed planning to venmo or insert money app the person may not have

Bonus: You can haggle but depending on the item popularity and the seller…you can miss out on the item or the seller might not want to deal with you

Navigating Facebook Marketplace demands strategic interaction—personalize messages, avoid generic inquiries, and be ready for immediate pickup. Confirm details promptly and always bring cash. While you may encounter scammers and irrelevant listings, diligent searching can unearth exceptional deals on furniture and rare items. Haggling wisely can secure these finds, but risks losing them.

What kind of deals have you found on Facebook Marketplace (FBMP)?
